Topping that list is Sachin Tendulkar. His records are a delight for any statiscian, about that there is no doubt. They undoubtedly contributed to his longevity, but what conributed more to his success (and our pleasure) was his approach and attitude towards the sport. His dedication on the field (we quite often forget his bowling heroics too J ), his balance off the field, his resolve in coming back from lean periods, and his down to earth manners have all contributed in large measures to his success. That is what we have to learn from this man – focus on your job and glory will automatically follow.
To the spectator, any shot of his is such a pleasure to watch, but my personal favorite is in the picture below. It still perplexes me as to how such a shot can even be played! Many of us can not even dream of such a shot.
That he has entertained us for 20 continous years is a fascniating reality; and that one day he will stop playing is the harsh reality. Until then, let us enjoy the gems he produces time and again. Because, we might not get to see anything close to the genius of Sachin Tendulkar in our lifetime.

I consider myself and our generation very fortunate to have been witnessed The Master's journey. Though I do not quite remember his debut knock but right from childhood his name has been synonymous to the "Indian Cricket".
The decency and soberness with which he behaves on n off the field is what the new generation has to inculcate.....the coaches at tier 2 tier 3 levels need to push for such virtues apart from technicalities of the game.
I solemnly Thank God for making us a part of the generation which has been witnessing the aura of India's best cricketing talent ever!!
May he go on for ever and cherish the unfulfilled desire of lifting a World Cup for the country!!
Rightly this genius deserves all the praise he has been showered with, it is not that this era has geniuses like him, but it is the way he conducted him self off and on the field.
I have probably read 10 interviews of legends in there own art, what is common in there view about sachin is, his humbleness.. that is what sperates this genius from others.
sudhir i dreamt of you hitting that shot in the picture, but it was ugly :-)
A true role model indeed..he has not let success and abundance of wealth destroy his discipline and respect for the game..which is where most people lose their way!!..
I hope he continues till 2011 and help India lift the world cup (he almost did it in 2003).
