Is the August 15th weekend a long weekend?

According to CNN-IBN, it is !!

Now, here's the first question that will come to the mind. August 15th is a Saturday? How come a holiday that comes on a saturday qualifies as "long weekend" holiday. By this standard, holidays that come on fridays and mondays are longer weekends, and those falling on thursdays and tuesdays are longest weekends I guess!

Well, if you are wondering what made CNN-IBN to harp so much on this "long weekend", it is the private airliners call for a strike on the 18th of August. Instead of concentrating on the claims of the airlines, CNN-IBN continues to mislead the viewers saying that this will hurt the plans for the long weekend ( it doesn't matter to them that 18th is actually a tuesday) and they somehow managed to find some "passengers" who are equally sad that their "long weekend" plans might go awry!

On any day that the airlines decide to go on strike, it is a fact that the general public will be put to great discomfort. Instead of concentrating on why the airlines were asking government to cut taxes; instead of debating the ridicule with which the airlines announced a strike; and instead of putting forth actual information, the media went into a tizzy again and sought to dramatize the situation beyond one's comprehension!

The airlines did NOT ask for government money to bail them out. If they did, that would have been a little outrageous, but they asked for a reduction in taxes. Now, if it is needed or not is the issue that needs to discussed, but what is shocking is that they unilaterally announce a strike (as this piece is being written, news is flashing that Spice Jet is withdrawing from the strike). The media just did not give breathing space for anyone to react. As if the strike was tomorrow, and the earth was to stop rotating if these flights didn't go up in the air, the news readers "emotions" kept changing from shock to disgust. All because the "long weekend" plans have gone awry!

I think Media always concentrates on the Side course then the Main course, which is simply outrageous, and the ppl who had plans till tuesday are definitely are some one who are looking for a 15 sec of Fame.
